Especially in the Arizona summer months, the heat can possibly dissuade anyone from outdoor activity. But some would argue that it is the most important time to push oneself to do physical activity because of that potential for excuses and lethargy. Having the excuse of “it’s too hot” is definitely relevant when temperatures reach triple digits for weeks straight, but residents should be conscious of a time in Arizona that is conducive to laziness.

Add the Clean Elections Commission to the list of groups hoping to intervene in the federal lawsuit over Arizona's new legislative-district map. The commission oversees the state's public-campaign-finance system and therefore, it argues, is directly affected by the challenge to the new district lines. The commission has a duty to ensure the 2012 election proceeds smoothly, and the prospect of another legislative map so close to the Aug. 28 primary could complicate that operation, the commission argues in a motion filed with the U.S. District Court. Like the Maricopa County Recorder's Office,…

For the impatient: view the code, or see the demo. Several weeks ago I set out to create a single page web app leveraging Backbone.js on the front end with Ruby on Rails powering the back end. In the architecture for this application, Rails is essentially just a JSON API. All of the front-end magic happens with Backbone.js and related friends. Granted, Rails is doing a lot more boilerplate than just acting as an API, but the separation of the UI code and back-end code is a lot clearer in this model. read more

One of the most talked about features in Rails 3 is its plug & play architecture with various frameworks like Datamapper in place of ActiveRecord for the ORM or jQuery for javascript. However, I've yet to see much info on how to actually do this with the javascript framework. Fortunately, it looks like a lot of the hard work has already been done. Rails now emits HTML that is…
